Start by only hiring one who is experienced and practiced, someone who belongs to an industry trade group, like the American Society of Home Inspectors (ASHI). This organization has urbanized formal inspection guidelines and a professional code of ethics for its members. In addition, membership in ASHI is not automatic; members should have demonstrated field experience and technical knowledge regarding structures and their different systems.
